Superior Tire Honoured at Gala Chamber Event*
The Scarborough/Metro East Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Mirror newspaper and the City of Scarborough, (now amalgamated as part of the City of Toronto), recognized the city's outstanding companies in its second annual awards program.

The elite of the City's business community turned out in black tie and tails to celebrate the presentation and to honour the winners of the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. Superior Tire Corporation was proud and honoured to be one of the recipients of this prestigious award along with A.G. Simpson Co. Ltd., Honda Canada Inc., Arosan Enterprises, Promark Tools and Warner-Lambert Corporation.
The awards highlighted the efforts of the city's best entrepreneurs and showcased their talents. A judging panel, made up of industry, academic, media and Chamber representatives reviewed 43 nominated companies and chose the six winners based on their achievements; demonstrating growth, community service, sales achievement, profitability and overall excellence in one of Canada's largest city.
Superior Tire was honoured for developing and implementing new marketing and promotional strategies, for providing outstanding community service and leadership, for maintaining service excellence in their retail programs while producing the most significant increase in profits in its many years in the tire business.
The company has been actively involved in the Ontario Tire Dealers Association, the Tire Dealers Association of Canada, the Scarborough Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Tire Industry Association in the U.S. Company C.E.O. Paul Hyatt lobbied successfully against the Ontario tire tax, was instrumental in the formation of the Ontario Scrap Tire Task Force, initiated the development of North America's first officially recognized Tire Technician course with Ontario's Ministry of Education and received induction into the Ontario Tire Dealers' prestigious Hall of Fame.
Paul Hyatt, on accepting the Business Excellence Award remarked, "This award is a credit to the dedication and hard work of each employee in the development and the implementation of our company programs. By contributing their efforts to their customers, to their community and to their industry, they have brought recognition to themselves and to our company. I am very proud of every one of them for this achievement".
